THE SECRET
"I don't want to die!"
—Says the girl—,
Tending towards his mother
Two little hands
Horny,
Like two white jasmine
Let the wind dry...
A deathly silence
The mother keeps...
ow! isi spoke, poured
Seas of tears!
Kiss the girl,
And they still pretend their lips
A smile!
From the mother's neck
Daughter hangs
And, glued to his ear,
Pale and tremulous,
With a deaf accent,
She tells him in horror:
"Listen a secret:
Do you know why to die?
Am I so afraid of him?
Because then they take me
All in white
To the cemetery...,
and to see me there alone
It's going to scare me!"
"Daughter of my entrails!
—Shouts the mother—
God will want you to live me...
And, even if it kills you,
Don't worry, beautiful;
That you in the cemetery
You will not be alone".
1867.
